National Skills Week October 1 to 8
The first National Skills Week will
run from 1-8 October and
includes over 140 activities and functions in local communities across Australia focussing on building the profile of vocational education.
National Skills Week aims to assist Australia address the skill and labour demands of industry in collaboration with stakeholders including the Australian, state and territory governments, industry, the community, education and training providers, employers, job seekers, workers, parents, students and career advisers.
The initiative is also dedicated to raising the status of practical and vocational learning, enabling all Australians to gain a greater understanding of the opportunities, their potential and how they contribute to a successful, modern economy. Learning by doing is as important as academic learning - there are many paths to success.
National Skills Week will also link to the 41st WorldSkills International Competition (http://www.worldskills.org/ ) to be held in London where 27 Australian Skillaroos will compete in skill categories with their peers from more than 50 countries.
With over 140 activities planned nationwide during National Skills Week, there are many opportunities to celebrate vocational qualifications and to showcase the achievements of practical learners like Australian Training Award and WorldSkills Australia winners and finalists.
