Update on high risk work licensing in South Australia
South Australia has not yet implemented the National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work 2006 (the Standard). However, SafeWork SA is currently amending the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations 1995 to incorporate the Standard's requirements.
Safework SA expects to introduce these changes as law in the second half of 2010. Until then, SafeWork SA will not release the new assessment instruments to its registered assessors as they require further improvements to address the existing units of competency.
The first step for RTOs delivering training in South Australia is to apply to the Department of Further Education, Employment Science and Technology for the scope to deliver the new units. When they have approval and the new licensing arrangements have commenced in this state, the new assessment instruments will be made available to assessors.
Existing certificates may continue to be used and currently do not expire.
