Update on high risk work licensing in New South Wales

Information on 'National Licence to Perform High Risk Work'  issued from 1 September 2009

WorkCover NSW commenced training and assessment and issuing National Licences to Perform High Risk Work (HRW licences) under the National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work on 1 September 2009 using 24 of the 29 available high risk units of competency (CPC08 and TLI07) and the existing National Certificate of Competency (NCOC) assessment instruments. Permission has been granted by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) for the use of their pressure equipment units of competency for the five remaining high risk licence classes.

Information on 'Former National Certificates of Competence' issued April 1996 - August 2009

WorkCover no longer issues National Certificates of Competency (NCOC) however, existing certificates will remain valid for five years from the date of issue. WorkCover will send a renewal package to those in possession of a current NCOC to convert to a National Licence to Perform High Risk Work (HRW licence) before their NCOC is due to expire. If you have changed your address, you can notify WorkCover using the change of address form or call the renewal team directly on 1800 201 225. NCOCs will continue to be recognised in all Australian states and territories during this period.

Information on  'Former Certificates of Competency'  issued prior to April 1996

All old style certificates of competency issued prior to April 1996 expire on 30 September 2010. To convert to a HRW licence prior to this date, please contact WorkCover on 1800 201 225 or email licensingsolutions@workcover.nsw.gov.au.
