A research report into the currency of industry skills and knowledge held by VET teachers and trainers has been released by the Queensland Department of Education and Training.
The research report Keeping it Real: Industry Currency of Trainers in Queensland aims to raise awareness of the issues relating to industry currency. It acknowledges that Queensland trainers undertake a range of activities to increase their technical skills and knowledge as well as maintain their industry currency.
The report outlines 20 key findings including:
- the benefits of maintaining industry currency
- the value of building and maintaining productive relationships with industry
- the necessity to apply an outcomes focus when planning industry currency activities
- the barriers trainers encounter and the need to apply more innovative approaches and planning to overcome these barriers.
The Department of Education and Training will be presenting the findings to VET stakeholders around the state over the coming months.
