Educational copyright information sessions - national
A series of workshops will be held around the country to give vocational education and training practitioners the opportunity to get on top of the key issues around copyright.
The sessions will be held from May to October 2010 and will be hosted by the Australian Flexible Learning Framework.
The workshops will be conducted by the Framework's Copyright Officer, Vanessa Tuckfield, who provides expert advice on the issues of copyright and intellectual property for the VET sector and maintains the Framework's Copyright Kitchen online resource.
Workshop overviews:
Copyright in education: The basics
This session will explain the basics of copyright and how it affects VET practitioners and training providers, e-learning developers, librarians and learning resource managers. It will cover topics such as:
- What material is covered by copyright?
- What print and digital materials can I use in my teaching and training resources?
- What are the key things I should be aware of when using my own resources and other peoples' resources for teaching and training?
- What have been the main changes to copyright rights and responsibilities over the last few years?
E-learning resources workshop: So you want to put that music into your PowerPoint presentation?
Designed for VET practitioners, librarians, managers and resource developers with a basic understanding of copyright, this workshop will guide participants in creating and using digital resources, such as text, music and audiovisual material, in teaching and training.
Participants will gain an understanding of the limitations and obligations surrounding the use of digital resources and the range of free licences available, including Creative Commons, statutory licences and educational exceptions. The workshop will also cover compliance and management issues that training organisations should be aware of.
Copyright for managers
This session focuses on copyright compliance issues applicable to both private and public training organisations, and suggests the implementation of policies around maximising their own intellectual property and managing compliance to avoid public infringement battles.
