Phase out of refrigerant transitional licences
The Australian Refrigeration Council has advised that the refrigerant handler transitional licence and the refrigerant recoverer transitional licence will be phased out in 2010.
Applications or reapplications for transitional licences will not be accepted after 30 November 2010.
The trainee licence will not be re-issued after that 12 month period. Once a trainee has completed the training and assessment modules successfully they will be able to convert their trainee licence to a restricted one.
Holders of either licence will need to undertake training, if required, and assessment programs to convert their transitional licences to either a restricted refrigerant handlers licence (decanting) or restricted refrigerant recoverers licence (end-of-life or damaged equipment).
Refrigerant recoverer and refrigerant handler training and assessment programs have been available from the ARC website since early December 2009. These programs cater to individuals who either undertake decanting operations at wholesalers or perform refrigerant recovery operations only.
