Qld User Choice information sessions - Queensland

The Queensland Department of Education and Training will be hosting a series of free information sessions across the state in January and February on changes to User Choice.

From 1 July 2010 the Queensland Government will make improvements to User Choice to provide greater flexibility for apprentices, trainees, employers and training providers.

The User Choice program will focus around the Queensland Government's priorities for training, the price paid as the government's contribution to the cost of training, and how training services of registered training organisations will be purchased.

These changes have been designed to help meet the future needs of industry and the training market.

Key changes to the program include:

  • a focus on providing funding that is strongly linked to occupational outcomes and addresses skills shortages
  • implementing annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) increases to the prices shown on the published User Choice price list
  • enhancing student and employer choice and mobility by enabling them to select their preferred supplier, move between registered suppliers with their notional funding and negotiate the cost of training with the supplier based on their individual delivery needs.

These changes will help meet the future needs of industry and the training market.
