Stevedoring guidance publications released

Safe Work Australia has released three guidance publications for the stevedoring industry. The booklets aim to create a national approach to improving safety in Australian stevedoring by providing guidance on the best occupational health and safety practices for this industry.

The package of national stevedoring guidance material that includes three booklets

  • Working Safely on the Waterfront
  • Working Safely with General Cargo - Steel Products
  • Working Safely with Containers.

This guidance material aims to reduce the incidence of fatalities and injuries on the waterfront by addressing environmental, physical, mechanical and psychosocial risks associated with stevedoring operations.

The booklets are a reference tool for employers and employees in the transport and storage industry, including shipping agents and stevedoring companies.

Each booklet contains a checklist, which is available separately.
