National taxi driver licensing reform

National taxi driver licensing reformThe Australian Transport Council, comprising Transport Ministers from the Commonwealth, States and Territories, has recommended a national minimum standards framework for taxi drivers.

At its 6 November meeting, the Ministers endorsed core National Taxi Driver Units of Competency and agreed to their implementation. It was also agreed to implement a National Minimum English Standard for taxi drivers from 1 July 2010.

This work complements the broader Council of Australian Government work to improve occupational licensing across Australia.
