WELL resources for the construction and security industries
The Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council has released two workplace English language, literacy and numeracy resources for the construction and security industries.
The first is a professional development resource for security industry registered training organisations. It is a CD based audio-visual presentation with accompanying documents and facilitator's guide, which aims to support trainers by assisting them to:
- understand the concept of literacy more fully
- recognise the key linguistic features of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF)
- identify the implicit language, literacy and numeracy requirements within units of competence in the CPP07 Property Services Training Package and relate these to the ACSF
- develop training materials and assessment tasks which relate to the industry context at an appropriate target level.
The resource has been developed by Agenda Communication and costs $22. For more information contact Agenda Communications on 08 9330 8989, gpearson@highway1.com.au or visit www.fpbsitc.com.au
The second resource is the Trade Maths Dictionary which is a CD based resource that provides worked solutions to Trade Mathematics problems in the context of the following eight trades:
- brick laying
- boilermaker welder
- carpentry
- electrician
- fitter machinist
- landscape construction
- plumber
- motor mechanic
The dictionary allows listeners to search an index that links to scenarios in which mathematics challenges are presented in trade context. The learner is then presented with:
- factors for consideration to be used to find the solution
- the formula to be used
- worked examples into which a viewer may introduce the factors applicable in their own work situation to find a solution.
The resource has been developed by the Wodonga Institute of TAFE and cost $20.
