The Australian Government is committing $81.9 million over 3 years to fund the Vocational Education Broadband Network proposed at the 2020
The Vocational Education Broadband Network will provide the infrastructure to support a high speed broadband network for the training sector.
High speed network connectivity is already in place for the higher education sector and is being addressed for schools through the Fibre Connection to Schools initiative.
The Vocational Education Broadband Network will extend the Digital Education Revolution to the vocational education and training sector.
The Vocational Education Broadband Network will allow more course offerings for learners and enable speedy access to resources no matter where they are located.
It will assist in supporting foundation skills training such as language, literacy and numeracy, through the provision of infrastructure to support low cost delivery.
The capital injection will improve national infrastructure and will complement the recently announced National Broadband Network initiative.
The results of the initiative will be most significant over the long term, as it will transform the way training is delivered. It will enable structural change and enhance the capacity and flexibility of the training sector.
