Security industry qualifications in Tasmania and the ACT

Advice has been released regarding the training requirements for security licensing in
The latest edition of the Tasmanian Consumer Affairs and Fair Trading Security Industry Bulletin details the units of competency from the CPP07 Property Services Training Package which are now required to meet security industry licensing requirements in
In the ACT, the Security Industry Act 2003 requires all applicants for an employee or trainer licence to undertake training prior to being issued with a licence. However, the training requirements listed in the Security Industry Regulation 2003 are still based on qualifications in the old PRS03 Asset Security Training Package and do not reflect the current CPP07 Property Services Training Package.
While this is currently the case, the Office of Regulatory Services is advising that the Commissioner for Fair Trading has the ability to recognise experience and training that is the equivalent to the training set out in the legislation and will recognise training undertaken under the new CPP07 training package.
The Office of Regulatory Services does not accept the Certificate II in Security (Guarding) which is an old qualification, and all persons who hold this qualification will need to contact an registered training organisation (RTO) to organise updating their training prior to applying for a new or renewing an existing security employee licence.
