Changes to training department in Queensland

The Queensland Government department responsible for vocational education and training has a new minister, a new name and a new director-general in changes announced following the recent state election.

Geoff Wilson MP replaces previous Minister Rod Welford who has retired from politics.

Mr Wilson was Minister for Mines and Energy in the previous government. He has worked on a number of Ministerial Backbench Committees covering a variety of portfolios including Employment, Training and Industrial Relations, Attorney-General and Justice, Transport and Main Roads, Natural Resources and Mines, and Energy.

With Arts moving to the Office of the Premier, the department will be known as the Department of Education and Training (DET).

The department also has a new director-general with Julie Grantham returning as Acting Director-General.
