Building owner awareness campaign on gaseous fire suppression licensing
The Fire Protection Industry Board has developed material to promote compliance and proper technician licensing within industry.
The Board is launching a new initiative to increase awareness among building owners and occupiers of the gaseous fire suppression systems that may be installed in their premises.
The promotion consists of an information label that should be affixed to each Fire Indicator Panel and an explanatory brochure explaining that in certain circumstances fire system servicing and testing personnel have a requirement to be licensed.
Under existing Federal Government regulations, systems and extinguishers using the gases list below are permitted, however they must be serviced and maintained by technicians who hold an Extinguishing Agent Handling Licence (EAHL).
Gaseous fire suppression systems and portable extinguishers affected by the legislation may include those containing:
- HFC-227ea
- HFC-125
- Halon 1211
- Halon 1301
- NAF-P-III
- NAF-S-III
- HFC-236fa
- HFC-23
- HCFC-124.
The promotional material aims to inform building owners and occupiers that they should check that any technician who works on gaseous fire suppression system or extinguishers are appropriately licensed.
