National Logistics Safety Code released

The Australian Logistics Council has released the National Logistics Safety Code (NLSC).

This industry based Code, for the first time, enables businesses in the supply chain to access to a best practice guide and auditable framework which sets out responsibilities under road transport laws and occupational health and safety (OH&S) legislation.

The NLSC is:

  • a single, comprehensive code for transport and logistics
  • flexible and adaptable for the needs of each individual business
  • a voluntary code of minimum operational standards that meet the highest level of regulation impacting transport and logistics throughout Australia.
  • industry based and designed to be used as a condition of business
  • independent third party audited (RABQSA).

The NLSC has been developed by harmonising the Retail Logistics Supply Chain Code of Conduct and the Steel Code of Practice. Further industry codes are currently being assessed for inclusion in the NLSC.

The NLSC does not replace other industry codes; instead it is designed to work with them to strengthen safety compliance in the transport and logistics industry.

The Code is a valuable tool for industry to reduce risks and improve compliance. It also sends a clear message to customers that participating companies are serious about safety.
