NSW security industry training upgrade information

The New South Wales Security Industry Registry (SIR) has released a notice about the revocation of licences for security licensees who have failed to comply with the mandatory training upgrade requirements.

Licensees holding subclasses 1C and/or 1D had until 1 November 2008 to supply the SIR with evidence of having completed the required training upgrades in relation to all Class 1 subclasses held.

Affected licensees were advised that the revocation of their licence would become effective on 8 January 2009 unless prior action was taken to comply with the training requirements or to surrender licence subclasses for which they have not completed the training.

The notice includes advice to master licensees about their obligations to ensure all employees and new employees meet all licensing requirements include the mandatory training. It advises that master licensees should ensure after 9 January 2009 that the licence status of all employees carrying on security activities is checked and any employee found to be unlicensed immediately stood down.

The status of licences may be checked online using the SIRs Public Register of Licences at www.police.nsw.gov.au/sir

For current Class 1 licences, a Public Register search will show whether the licensee has fully, partly or not yet satisfied their training upgrade requirements. This will be useful for master licensee when monitoring the compliance of employees who are subject to the 2009 training upgrade deadlines.
