Have your say on VET Training Products for the 21st Century

Comment is being sought on a consultation paper which has been released on 'VET Training Products for the 21st Century'.

The paper forms part of a larger COAG/NQC initiative which aims to identify future directions for vocational education and training (VET) training products to align them with current needs.

The consultation reflects outcomes from an initial, short consultation process undertaken with key stakeholders in December 2008 and is designed to provide the basis for broader stakeholder consultation on options to address key issues relating to:

  • the way in which competence is currently defined and assessed in the Australian VET system
  • the kinds of qualifications necessary to meet the needs of and ensure consistent outcomes for the diverse groups of learners in the VET system
  • the extent to which the needs of individual enterprises are being effectively met by the current VET products
  • the structure of national training packages
  • credit systems.

Responses to the consultation paper can be done through attendance at public workshops which will be held across the country throughout February and March. Alternatively responses can be provided electronically through the process outlined on the website.

The consultations are being led by a National Centre for Vocational Education Research team of consultants who will provide a final report based on an analysis of the consultation outcomes to the NQC/COAG Joint Steering Committee by April 2009. NCVER has also released an accompanying literature review which should be read in conjunction with the consultation paper.
