Dangerous Goods Code available for download

Following a recommendation in the Productivity Commissions research report on chemicals and plastics regulation, the Australian Transport Council has agreed to make the 7th Edition of the Australian Dangerous Goods Code (ADG7) available for free download.

Making the Dangerous Goods Code available for free internet download ensures the industry has ready access to the new laws and will promote wider understanding of ADG7s new requirements and smooth the transition for industry.

Australias Transport Ministers also agreed to implement legislation for the ADG7 on 1 January 2009. The delay supports uniform implementation across all states and territories (except Tasmania and ACT).

A national transition period of 12 months will expire on 31 December, 2009.

The 6th Edition of the Australian Dangerous Goods Code (ADG6) applies as an alternative to ADG7 during the transition period

The National Transport Commission will post links to the local laws implementing the ADG7 as they are passed. Until then enquires should be to the local competent authority. For contact for Dangerous Goods Competent Authorities visit www.ntc.gov.au/ViewPage.aspx?DocumentId=00919
