New Community Services Training Package endorsed

The new CHC08 Community Services Training Package has been endorsed and will replace CHC02.

The Case for Endorsement (PDF 2.5MB) of CHC08 states that the package reflects licensing and regulatory requirements and uses the range of Training Package structural options to ensure these are embedded.

Most licensing and regulation requirements in the community services industry apply to workplaces (e.g. aged care accreditation) and work practices (e.g. poisons law compliance for medication administration). Some regulations make specific reference to the use of units of competency e.g. state/territory regulations for children's services.

The Australian Government Attorney General's requirement that registration to practice as marriage celebrant is linked to particular units of competency structured into the Certificate IV in Celebrancy in CHC08 is the only requirements linked to a physical licence.

Specific requirements are identified through units of competency (as benchmarks in performance criteria and where appropriate in essential knowledge items), within statements in qualification in Volume 1 of the Training Package and through a licensing and regulation skills set grouping.

The CHC08 Assessment Guidelines include specific requirements for assessors and their responsibility for assessing in the context of the relevant regulatory and licensing requirements. The Guidelines specifically state that trainers and assessors will need to ensure that students have a sound understanding of legal and ethical issues relevant to their work.
