Liquor licensing fees rise in Victoria

Consumer Affairs Victoria has announced that liquor licence fees will rise next year to recover the cost of regulating the liquor licensing system.

The liquor licensing system currently costs $15 million a year to regulate, of which only $9.8 million is paid for by the state's 19,000 licensees. The Victorian Government funds the remaining $5 million.

The fee rise is the first stage of a two-tiered restructure of the liquor licensing system that was outlined in Victoria's Alcohol Action Plan 2008-2013, the State Government's strategy to reduce alcohol-related harm, particularly violence in and around licensed premises.
