Project to identify electricity supply refresher training

The Energy Networks Association (ENA) and EE-Oz Training Standards (EE-Oz) have announced a joint project to identify common refresher training in the Australian Electricity Supply Industry, to encourage portability of qualifications across Australia.

The joint ENA/EE-Oz project will focus on enhancement of this refresher training as a first step in developing a national framework for energy safety for electricity supply industry workers.

ENA is confident that the project will identify and resolve differences in requirements that impede an enterprise or contractor's employees from performing work on Electricity Supply Infrastructure across network operators and/or jurisdictions.

At the conclusion of the project, organisations across Australia will have access to nationally consistent delivery and assessment tools. Training and assessment by the use of these tools should assist individual network operators by facilitating the portability of individuals and reduce training costs for people to access Electricity Network Infrastructure.

The project will also provide substantial support to work by the Ministerial Council on Energy on developing a national framework for energy safety.

This work will be undertaken as a project funded through the Australian Government's Industry Training Strategies Program: Industry Pathfinder, administered by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.

ENA, the peak national body for Australia's energy networks and EE-Oz, the national Industry Skills Council for the electricity and electrical related industries already cooperate in identifying appropriate training requirements to match licensing, safety and regulatory arrangements.

ENA and EE-Oz are both engaged in efforts to ensure that national consistency in training and skills recognition is available to electrical workers allowing them have portable skills across Australia.

EE-Oz and ENA will continue to cooperate on these and other initiatives to match industry needs with appropriate safety systems, workforce planning and skills development tools.
