Interactive e-learning resource repository available

The Australian Flexible Learning Framework, the national training system's e-learning strategy, has a bank of free learning objects available for teachers and trainers to download for use with their learners.

Available through the Toolbox Repository, it features high quality interactive e-learning and assessment resources featuring scenarios, images, activities and games that can be used to support learning in any situation.

Learning objects are small 'chunks' of e-learning content for easy download and delivery. They are designed to be easily discovered, modified and reused in different teaching and learning contexts.

Over 1,500 learning objects supporting a range of industries, training packages and competency units are currently available in the repository.

Learning objects range in size, with some supporting entire units of competency and others supporting one or more performance criteria at a task level. They can take the form of interactive scenarios, quizzes, games and more.

The learning objects in the Toolbox Repository come from the Framework's Flexible Learning Toolboxes (Toolboxes) which are high-quality, cost effective e-learning products which support the delivery of nationally endorsed training packages in a number of industry areas.

Content is available for over 500 competencies and many of these learning objects can be adapted for use in different industry settings.

The Toolbox Repository was developed in 2003 and is maintained by the national training system's e-learning strategy, the Australian Flexible Learning Framework (Framework).

A useful starting point for new users is the 'Using the repository' document which provides instructions on how to use the repository. Users can also download customisation tutorials on using free software to customise Toolbox learning objects.

The Toolbox Repository is a member of the Framework's LORN (Learning Object Repository Network). LORN allows teachers and trainers to access more than 2,500 quality, copyright cleared, free or affordable, online learning resources from repositories across Australia, which support the delivery of vocational education and training programs.
