Funding available in NSW to test new self evaluation RPL tool

The New South Wales (NSW) Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board has funding available for registered training organisations (RTO) to test a new self evaluation tool to help students be better prepared for recognition of prior learning (RPL).

The tool is available on the recently revamped website - www.skillsrecognition.nsw.gov.au

RTOs can apply for funding of up to $5000 to form small groups of RPL candidates to try out the new tool between February and March 2009. The experiences and suggestions from the test groups will be incorporated into the design of enhancements for the tool.

The new self evaluation tool allows potential RPL candidates to build a list of possible competencies they already have, see qualifications that might match and get a list of NSW registered training organisations (RTOs) that offer the qualification/s they are interested in.

This will increase RPL business for RTOs by helping students find them, but it will also ensure candidate arrive with a realistic understanding of the skills recognition process and their readiness for it.

Assessment will still need to be conducted by an RTO, but students will have taken the first step of considering their competencies and qualifications they might aim for.

All visitors are encouraged to provide feedback via the site.

Online applications for funding to test the site close on 18 December 2008. To apply for funding visit www.skillsrecognition.nsw.gov.au/funding
