New website to support assessment for Vic conveyancing licence

VETASSESS, together with Consumer Affairs Victoria, has launched a service to assist experienced conveyancers meet the criteria required to obtain a full conveyancers licence.
The service has been developed in response to the Conveyancing Act 2006, which came into effect on 1 July 2008 and sets out the prescribed qualification requirements for conveyancers to be granted an unrestricted licence by the Business Licensing Authority (BLA).
The service uses skills recognition to assesses a conveyancer's competence in six areas relating to conveyancing practice, and involves providing a portfolio of work samples, sitting a knowledge test and/or meeting with an assessor
VETASSESS, which is a nationally recognised, assessment-only registered training organisation (RTO), will issue a Statement of Attainment that will be recognised by the BLA and will meet the prescribed qualification requirements set out in the Conveyancers (Qualifications, Experience and Fees) Regulations 2008.
The units of competency to be assessed are taken from the core components of the Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Conveyancing) qualification from the Financial Services Training Package (FNS04) and include:
- (FNSCONV501B) Take instructions in relation to a transaction
- (FNSCONV502B) Prepare and/or analyse and execute documents
- (FNSCONV503B) Establish, manage and administer trust accounts
- (FNSCONV504B) Finalise conveyancing transactions
- (FNSCONV601B) Obtain and analyse all information for the transaction
- (FNSICORG603B) Negotiate to achieve goals and manage disputes.
The service can also assist conveyancers who already hold prescribed qualifications such a recognised law degree, an Associate Diploma of Business (Legal Practice) or an Advanced Diploma of Business (Legal Practice) and are required by the regulations to have successfully completed the unit of competency (FNSCONV503B) Establish, manage and administer trust accounts.
VETASSESS is currently the only registered training organisation recognised by the Regulations as being able to deliver this service for licensing purposes.
