Resources released for working safely with bitumen
A set of new resources have been developed to address safety requirements for employees who are working in sprayed sealing and asphalt operations and maintenance activities.
The four comprehensive interactive resource kits are designed for employees in the asphalt and sprayed sealing industry and cover:
- Paving the Way
- Spraying Bitumen Successfully - Part 1 and 2
- Focus on Fire Safety
- Working Safely with Hot Bitumen.
The kits are mapped to relevant units of competency in the Civil Construction Training Package (BCC03).
Developed by the Australian Asphalt Pavement Association with funding and support from the Australian Government's Workplace English Language and Literacy Program (WELL Program), the resources provide detailed information on safety and productivity issues in a way which is readily understandable to those in the industry with low levels of literacy or numeracy. However, the learning materials are also designed to provide practical information to all personnel working in the industry.
The kits include:
- a CD-ROM containing interactive work based learning units, assessment activities and language, literacy and numeracy tutorials
- a user guide to support the CD-ROM
- a program and database that can be used to record progress made by employees and identify any language and literacy skill gaps.
