NARA registration now available for QLD RTOs

Registered training organisations (RTOs) which are registered in Queensland but operate in more than one other state or territory are now able to transfer their registration to the National Audit and Registration Agency (NARA).

NARA was established in 2007, following a decision by the Ministerial Council for Vocational and Technical Education to establish a national registration, audit and approval function in TVET Australia to reduce the audit requirements for multi-jurisdictional RTOs. NARA conducts audit and registration functions under delegations from the Australian states and territories.

The Queensland Training and Employment Recognition Council (TERC) recently finalised the delegation of selected functions to TVET Australia (of which NARA is a business unit) for eligible RTOs delivering in multiple jurisdictions.

The delegation will allow NARA to perform audit and registration functions for those eligible Queensland RTOs that elect to register with the agency.

Queensland is the second state after South Australia to delegate audit and registration functions to NARA.

All remaining states and territories are working towards finalising delegations and amending relevant legislation to allow NARA to undertake audit and registration functions for eligible multi-jurisdictional RTOs.

The benefits to qualifying RTOs of registration with NARA include:

  • NARA's commitment to providing transparent and timely services to RTOs:
    • 4-week desk audit
    • 8-week site audit
    • NARA's innovative IT solutions and secure RTO website designed to reduce compliance-related paperwork
    • NARA's commitment to improving training quality through an explicit emphasis on RTO good practice
  • NARA's audit model that offers:
    • each RTO an individual Client Relationship Manager as a single point of contact for all registration matters
    • a list of NARA-endorsed Quality Consultants to assist RTOs prepare for audit
    • the same Lead Auditor for the period of an RTO's registration with NARA
    • formal links with Industry Skills Councils to ensure appropriate technical expertise at audit.
