Licensing recommendations in Beauty Training Package report

Service Skills Australia, the national industry skills council for the service industries, recently released a report into the continuous improvement of the Beauty Training Package.

Compiled after a period industry consultation, the report provides a list of key recommendations to improve the package to ensure that it continues to meet the needs of the beauty industry.

The report commented that any update of the training package would need to consider the potential for increased levels of regulation linked to new technologies and treatments. It noted that regulation could possibly be passed around areas like who is able to administer treatments and use particular machinery. This is evidenced by the fact that states and territories are already exploring regulation in relation to intense pulse light (IPL), laser and tanning technologies.

The report recommend that all relevant units of competency adequately reference any state or territory regulations which may apply in areas such as hygiene, health, skin penetration and infection control issues.

Service Skills Australia has received comments on the report and will now begin work to incorporate recommendations from the report into the Beauty Training Package.
