Website takes new approach to identifying injury risks

WorkSafe Victoria has launched a new website to help businesses identify safety risks affecting them and their workforce.

The Injury Hotspots website uses five years of workplace injury insurance claims to provide a snapshot of how people get hurt most often and what can be done to prevent injuries.

Using strong graphics to provide powerful evidence of the need to address known safety risks, the website will help people understand their legal responsibilities and protect their workers and business.

Victoria's high risk industries, including agriculture, meat, road freight, manufacturing, storage, community services, education, health, and construction trades, are the first to be covered.

According to the analysis, the most common injuries across the targeted industries include back and shoulder injuries from bending, lifting and repetitive movements; arm, hand and finger injuries from working with machinery or tools; and leg injuries from slips, trips or falls.

Users can click on individual hotspots to find solutions and detailed advice or download hotspot fact sheets for their industry.

WorkSafe Victoria will release updates for up to a dozen more industries over coming months.
