ForestWorks given ISC status

A milestone was reached for Australia's forest, wood, paper and timber products industries with the official announcement of ForestWorks as Australia's eleventh industry skills council.

The industry skills council status will see ForestWorks build on its existing task of providing a communication and information channel between industry, the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, licensing and regulatory authorities, and the vocational education and training system.

ForestWorks will now be resourced to carry out a number of new roles including training package development and management.

Key tasks will include:

  • providing industry intelligence and advice to Skills Australia, government and enterprises on workforce development and skills needs
  • actively supporting the development, implementation and continuous improvement of high quality training and workforce development products and services
  • working with enterprises, employment service providers, training providers and government to allocate training places.

The first priority for ForestWorks will be to build the capacity of the organisation to enable it to carry out its expanded roles. This will include hiring a network of field officers who will help the industry address its skill needs.

ForestWorks will be responsible for the following training packages:

  • Forest and Forest Products Industry (FPI05)
  • Pulp and Paper Manufacturing Industries (FPP01).
