Comments sought on new fire protection licensing in QLD


In response to amendments passed by the Queensland Parliament to introduce occupational licensing for persons who work in the fire protection industry, the Building Services Authority (BSA) in Queensland has developed a model for licensing those workers.

The BSA is now seeking comment from relevant stakeholders on the proposed technical qualifications required to hold a fire protection occupational licence, the relevant fees and other related matters, which are outlined in the regulatory impact statement.

These reforms, passed in October 2007, seek to ensure that all Queenslanders are protected by the highest standards of building fire safety.

The closing date for submissions on the regulatory impact statement is Tuesday 10 June 2008.
