Online safety training for chemical workers

An online interactive multimedia package for employees required to work with, or near hazardous substances has been released.

The Chemical Awareness e-learning demonstration has been designed to engage employees from a variety of educational backgrounds and experience levels in order to promote an industry wide standard for the safe handling of hazardous chemicals.

Topics covered in the demonstration include:

  • hazard identification
  • occupational health and safety procedures
  • understanding warning labels
  • correct use of personal protective equipment.

Although the demonstration covers chemical awareness training for the electronics manufacturing industry, the demonstration can be used as a guide to complement on-the-job occupational health and safety training across a range of industries.

The demonstration, funded by the Australian Flexible Learning Framework, the national training system's e-learning strategy, was developed jointly by IMP Printed Circuits and registered training organisation Workstar. The project highlights the potential of industry partnerships in developing innovative e-learning workforce development programs.
