New marine training centre opens on the Gold Coast
![]() |
The Queensland boat building industry's skill base is to be expanded with the opening of a new marine training centre on the Gold Coast. Situated in Coomera, TAFE Marine Gold Coast will train 600 apprentices this year.
The new training centre contains flexible classrooms, and marine construction and mechanics workshops, all of which are equipped with the latest technology. These new facilities offer an ideal location for apprentices to learn their trades and existing workers to upgrade their skills.
Boatbuilding is one of Queensland's fastest growing industries. The boatbuilding facilities in Coomera are the largest of their kind in the southern hemisphere. The craft produced on the Gold Coast are sold in more than 30 countries. Training provided by the new centre will help maintain the skills base that is essential to the industry's success.
