While the legislation has been separated, the Work Health Authority and its administrative arm NT WorkSafe are maintained under the new Acts.
The Workplace Health and Safety Act includes:
- the introduction and training of Health and Safety Representatives for workplaces
- training and right-of-entry for occupational health and safety related purposes for authorised union representatives
- more specific powers for NT WorkSafe Workplace Safety Officers
- new industry advisory arrangements to the Minister in the form of a ten member Workplace Health and Safety Advisory Council
- co-ordinates Occupational Health and Safety regulators.
The Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act provides consistency by mirroring the provisions of the previous legislation.
