Licensing Line News, in the October 2007 edition, reported on the Civil Aviation Safety Authority's (CASA) plan to increase training for helicopter pilots. The same article noted CASA's plan to strengthen the education materials made available to all pilots.
CASA has now released draft visual flight rules (VFR) syllabuses for helicopters and aeroplanes.
Issue 3 of the Day VFR Syllabus (Helicopter) introduces flight standards in competency based training terms. Issue 4 of the Day VFR Syllabus (Aeroplane) will contain flight standards which are presented in a new format to those in previous issues.
The following standards have been added to each syllabus:
- English communication in the aviation environment
- manage flight - single pilot human errors
- threat and error management.
The draft syllabuses will undergo further editing and formatting before issue.
