ACMA allocates two new community radio licences for Perth

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) called for applications for two new community radio licences in July 2007. The ACMA has now announced the allocation of those licences.

One of the licences has been allocated to Peedac Pty Ltd. Peedac's proposed service is for Perth's Indigenous community and those interested in indigenous culture and issues. The licence allocated to Peedac is to broadcast to the Perth Metropolitan area and surrounding districts.

The other licence has been allocated to Capital Community Radio Inc. (Capital) and will serve the seniors community. Capital will broadcast to Perth City and the inner and middle ring suburbs of Perth. Both licensees are required to begin their services within 12 months of allocation.

In deciding upon the successful applicants, the ACMA invited public submissions and met with each of the applicants. Consideration was given to the services already available in Perth as well as those proposed by the applicants.
