$7 million offered for e-learning
The Australian Flexible Learning Framework is making $7 million of funding available to industry, business and registered training organisations to integrate e-learning into their education and training programs.
A recent national survey reveals e-learning is becoming as important as ever to vocational education and training (VET). The Australian Flexible Learning Framework's benchmarking survey indicates 29 per cent of VET activity now involves information and communication technology, compared to 17 per cent in 2006 and 6-8 per cent in 2005.
Total funding for the Australian Flexible Learning Framework in 2008 will be $15 million, $7 million of which will be available between January and May 2008 through the Australian Flexible Learning Framework's 2008 business activities for organisations that have the ability to:
- embed e-learning in industry ($620,000)
- produce further Flexible Learning Toolboxes ($1 million)
- develop e-standards ($80,000)
- support e-learning solutions in the VET system in their state/territory ($5.3 million).
The remaining $8 million has been allocated to maintain and develop a national pool of e-learning resources, expertise, infrastructure, and support networks, such as the online platform Learning Object Repository Network (LORN).
Established in 2004 for the exchange of learning objects between states and territories, LORN allows teachers and trainers to access more than 2,500 online resources for the VET sector.
The Australian Flexible Learning Framework is a national strategy collaboratively funded by the Australian Government and all states and territories. The Australian Flexible Learning Framework provides the VET system with the essential e-learning infrastructure and expertise needed to respond to the challenges of a modern economy and the training needs of Australian businesses and workers.
