A powerful training solution for Tasmania

Hydro Tasmania and TAFE Tasmania have joined forces in creating an innovative training program for ydro Tasmania's power generation workers.

TAFE Tasmania worked with Hydro Tasmania to develop a one-stop-shop for training facilitation, delivery and development, providing a coordinated overall approach. Training was designed specifically around the needs of Hydro Tasmania's power generation network.

TAFE has also developed flexible delivery methods and tailored training resources through the use of a variety of tools including online access, compact disc and contemporary literature. This is in keeping with the proposed new training enterprise under Tasmania Tomorrow, which gears training to meet specific demands for skills.

Hydro Tasmania's Chief Executive Officer, Vince Hawksworth, said the partnership with TAFE offered many benefits for Hydro Tasmania. As well as the important issue of complying with industry standards, the arrangements also allow for a much more coordinated approach to training.

Hydro Tasmania previously relied on an internally developed training program for power station operators, delivered internally by its staff. However, a stronger focus was required to ensure compliance with electricity supply industry standards and regulations. This was achieved by using nationally recognised packages governed under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

TAFE Tasmania prides itself on its flexible delivery of training, and this training initiative highlights a new approach to providing a range of options for TAFE trainers.
