Workplace safety a national priority - Safe Work Australia Week 2007

The Australian Safety and Compensation Council has made workplace safety a national priority with the launch of Safe Work Australia Week 2007.

Safe Work Australia Week will be held from 21 to 27 October.  It will encourage all working Australians to get involved in, and concentrate on, safety in their workplace to reduce death, injury and disease. Australia currently ranks in the top five countries for reducing work related deaths, with a 13% decrease in accepted compensation claims and a 36% decrease in compensated fatalities since 1996.

Incorporating safety into everyday work practices and making it a daily consideration not only improves occupational health and safety performance, but also benefits productivity. By organising a safety event in the workplace for Safe Work Australia Week, employers can begin to highlight the importance of safety and the role everyone plays in making safety a priority at work.

Free promotional products, employer resource kits and activity ideas for Safe Work Australia Week 2007 are available from the ASCC website.
