New projects target regional skills needs

A range of key expanding industries will benefit from a new programme designed to address skills shortages in regional areas.

Over $4 million has been allocated for the Targeting Skills Needs in Regions Programme, aimed at addressing skills needs across 13 sectors from the meat industry in Victoria to the allied health industry in South Australia.

This range of practical projects commenced in September, and provide a strategic and innovative response to skills needs, quality training, workforce planning and training system flexibility.

The Targeting Skills Needs in Regions Programme was developed in response to a Council of Australian Governments meeting in February 2006 to help increase the supply of skilled labour to address regional needs.
