Mines Inspectorate reflects modern era of mining in Queensland
The Mines Inspectorate is being revitalised to reflect a new modern era of mining in Queensland.
The Inspectorate ensures that acceptable safety and health standards are established and practised within the mining and quarrying industries.
A national recruitment drive has swung into action to attract skilled mines inspectors and safety and health specialists to Queensland. Some senior inspector positions have been taken out of head office and transferred to regional Queensland. A number of occupational health and safety officers have also been appointed to the Mines Inspectorate in the regions.
A new holistic approach is being taken to the way in which inspections are carried out, inspecting whole sites across a range of issues rather than parts of sites on single issues.
Additionally, an Advanced Diploma in Workplace Inspection for safety and health inspectors is being introduced to strengthen inspection services. Registered training organisations have been invitied to tender for the design, development, coordination and delivery of this course. It is expected to start next year and will be open to all mines inspectors.
