'Look After Your Workmates' - new SA safety campaign

Mateship at work is the theme of a new advertising campaign promoting workplace safety in South Australia. 'Look After Your Workmates' is the key message of the $1 million campaign designed for SafeWork SA.

Research for this campaign showed that 'mateship' is a quality alive and well in our workplaces and is an effective medium to help change attitudes on workplace safety. Since people are more likely to listen to their friends than authorities, workmates are often the best early warning system about any potential dangers in a workplace.

'Look After Your Workmates' gives suggestions for encouraging workplace safety such as:

  • make sure that you and your workmates talk about health and safety issues in your workplace all the time - before, during and after the job is done
  • make sure that everyone in your workplace understands what health and safety issues they are responsible for
  • work together to develop and implement procedures and systems for every job in your workplace
  • don't let work start without finding and fixing any dangers or risks that might be involved in the job
  • think about how you and your workmates can do the job safely before you start work.

'Look After Your Workmates' complements the rigorous enforcement of occupational health and safety requirements and the many other projects SafeWork SA is driving to make workplaces safer. This includes information and assistance through the SafeWork SA Help Centre and SafeWork SA inspectors.
