Horticulture Code of Conduct committee appointed
A committee of growers, wholesalers and market operators has been appointed to advise the Australian Government on the operation of the Horticulture Code of Conduct.
The Horticulture Code of Conduct was introduced in May this year to regulate trade between growers and wholesalers of fruit and vegetables. It established a dispute resolution process and aims to improve the transparency and clarity of transactions.
The code has been introduced with minimal disruption and benefits from it, including greater transparency, are already being received by the industry. To date there has been very little formal dispute.
The terms of reference for the committee are to provide advice on:
- the impact of the code, including the extent to which it is improving transparency and clarity of tradeĀ
- how growers and wholesalers perceive the codeĀ
- options and practical actions that will support the effective operation of the code
- options to increase awareness of the code and its requirements
- general issues relating to the code, including the provision of an annual report on the committee's activities.
