Getting young people 'mine ready' in Queensland
A new mining industry project will provide training opportunities for Indigenous and unemployed young people in the Mackay region.
The Mine Readiness project will provide a range of basic skills that will enable participants to gain employment in the mining industry. The program will also provide training in skills such as basic cutting, welding, communications, risk assessments, first aid and general workplace safety.
Applications will be sought from young Indigenous and unemployed young people registered with the Job Network who would like to be considered for training starting this September.
The project will be managed by the Mining Industry Skills Centre, with off-site training through Central Queensland University in Mackay. The project is an excellent example of partnerships between industry and training organisations ensuring people are given training relevant to local business needs.
