Proposing skills shortage solutions to TAFE institutes
A white paper developed by TAFE Directors Australia proposes a strategy for TAFE institutes to tackle Australia's skills shortage crisis.
The paper, Investing in Productivity: Engaging TAFE to Accelerate Workforce Development and Job Participation, outlines ways in which obstacles can be removed to allow TAFE institutes to successfully service the training demands of students and organisations in an industry-led environment.
According to the paper, a paradigm shift is needed by TAFE institutes to deliver the forms of training required by industry. The paper suggests solutions and reforms to achieve this goal.
The strategy focuses on three themes:
- accelerate skills development to increase human capital in areas of skills shortages and identify areas of future growth
- advance skills development to enhance the quality of human capital by further raising the skills of the work force and of people holding post-school qualifications
- activate skills development to improve equity of access so that all people can enjoy an active and productive working life.
