CPD changes for NSW builders and swimming pool builders
![]() |
As reported in the May 2007 edition of Licensing Line News, continuing professional development (CPD) for builders and swimming pool builders in New South Wales was evaluated in late 2006, and a range of recommendations to improve and simplify the program have been made.
Consequently, after 1 September 2007, CPD will be based on a simple points system where builders and swimming pool builders will be required to earn 12 points a year from CPD activities prior to renewing a licence or certificate. Points will be earned per hour, replacing the current system where points are earned for different activities, regardless of their duration.
Builders and swimming pool builders have to earn a minimum 25 points per year (and 100 points over three years) as a requirement of their licence renewal.
As other changes will be needed to accommodate the new points system, the New South Wales Office of Fair Trading will continue to consult with industry representatives, and builders and swimming pool builders to ensure that workable changes are made before it is finally adopted.
The current program will remain in place until 1 September 2007.
The Office's web page will be updated regularly as more details become available. Interested parties can also subscribe to receive emails with news and information on CPD, legislative reform and other topics to keep up to date with changes in the home building industry.
