Mining Industry Transportability Scheme - progress report

Mining Industry Transportability SchemeThe implementation of the Mining Industry Transportability Scheme is progressing well and the Mining Industry Skills Centre will be visiting sites through the coming months to assist participation in the program.

Based on the Coal Industry Transportability Scheme, the overall aim of the scheme is to allow employees and contractors to move between mine sites, while having their previously assessed competencies recognised. This results in substantial savings in time and costs associated with the reassessment of new employess and the contract workforce.

In recent discussions, metaliferous mine representatives have shown an interest in the introduction of the scheme to their sector. This will allow new employees and contractors to move between metaliferous and coal mines, resulting in all mines receiving the same benefits from transportable competencies.

Other benefits of the scheme include the sharing of industry skills and resources and an overall increase in industry training standards.

The scheme will also indirectly assist with current skilling issues, such as asessement times, facing the mining industry.
