Time for review of the Commercial Radio Codes of Practice
Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan, recently called on the commercial radio industry to review the Commercial Radio Codes of Practice 2004 in light of an Australian Communications and Media Authority report about breaches of the code by a Sydney radio station.
Under the regulatory regime, the code was developed by industry in consultation with the Australian Communications and Media Authority. The regulator applies the guidelines as set out by the code. The code is currently due for review in September 2007.
Senator Coonan noted that an early review would give the public and the commercial radio industry an opportunity to comment on the code, particularly those parts of it which have been the subject of most recent concern.
