Safety audit findings a wake-up call to Queensland mining industry
Queensland's Minister for Mines and Energy, Geoff Wilson, has noted that early findings from the first of a series of mines safety audits are a wake up call for the industry.
As reported in the April 2007 edition of Licensing Line News, the Mines Inspectorate is undertaking a series of targeted safety audits at a number of coal and metalliferous mines across Queensland.
Early findings have been sent to a number of mines for action. Some of the early findings have highlighted serious safety issues. Mr Wilson notes that if the companies concerned fail to act on these findings, they will face the full consequences.
Unannounced safety audits will continue to be carried out at selected mines across Queensland over several months.
