Victorian government launches marine pilotage review
An independent review of marine pilotage in Victoria will be undertaken to help ensure that modern, effective and safe vessel management is practiced throughout Victorian waterways.
This review will address operational and safety management aspects of current pilotage arrangements. It will also examine the statutory framework for the provision of pilotage services in addition to the current arrangements for the training and licensing of marine pilots for Victoria.
The review will be highly consultative with key stakeholders, including Port Phillip Sea Pilots and all major Victorian port authorities.
The outcomes of the review are expected to be known later this year.
Tenders for the independent review will close on 5 April 2007.
