Taxi industry and driver accreditation reform in Victoria
The successful implementation of taxi industry and driver accreditation are two of the Victorian Taxi Directorate's major priorities for 2007.
The new accreditation regime will allow for the introduction of accreditation measures for taxi-cab licence holders, taxi operators, and providers of taxi-cab network services such as taxi depot managers.
Key elements of the accreditation package will include:
- business and service standards which will be developed by the Victorian Taxi Directorate in consultation with the taxi industry encompassing safety, customer service and complaints handling.
- allocation of responsibility for operators' role in the total delivery of a taxi ride from a passenger's booking process through to safe arrival at their destination.
- in the interest of public safety, the Victorian Taxi Directorate will refuse to allow anyone with a serious criminal history to work within the taxi industry.
The new driver accreditation scheme will come into effect first on 1 July 2007.
